FAQ

What is the average weight loss per week?
The average loss per week is 2-5 lbs with our program. Best results come with strict compliance to the daily protocol.

What are the best results you have seen with the program?
Dr. Morgan measures success of our patients not by the number of pounds lost, but in pounds kept off during our maintenance phase. The best results are achieved and maintained when patients stay accountable for the calories they consume. The number of pounds lost range from 10 pounds to more than 260 pounds! But again, the real results are totaled by the number of those pounds kept off!

How often and why do I need to come in to the office?
Our patients are required to come in weekly for an office visit. The accountability that our patients feel throughout each phase of our program is key to their success.

Will I lose muscle during the program?
Because this diet is Protein Sparing Modified Fasting Diet, you lose fat stores and spare muscle mass.

How does this diet affect any medications I take?
Most patients find that after losing weight on this program they are able to come off many of the medications they have been prescribed. Dr. Morgan will communicate with the prescribing physician to discuss any changes that might need to be made before, during, and after each phase of the diet.

Can I have any outside food while participating on the diet?
Yes. During the second phase of the diet, Realimentation, patients will follow a regimented meal plan that slowly adds grocery store foods back in to their diet.

Are their different protocols for diabetics, adolescents, and senior citizens?
Yes. Dr. Morgan will tailor a program to suit your individual needs so that you can maximize weight loss without compromising your health.

Will I have to eat these foods forever?
No. Even after patients enter the maintenance of the program, many continue to incorporate our supplements in to their daily lifestyle. Our Bariatric supplements easily transition from meal replacements to healthy snacks.

Are there any benefits to doing the program with a family member or friend?
Because we only see you once a week during your office visit, the accountability that friends and family provide can be helpful. Many of our couples enjoy the daily encouragement and emotional support that only a spouse participating in the program can provide. The same is true for mothers and daughters or fathers and sons, coworkers, and friends. On the other hand, sometimes loved ones can hinder your weight loss by unintentionally acting as a saboteur.

How do I handle cooking for family members who are not dieting?
So many times we have a mom doing the program who still has to cook for her husband and children. Because one family member is making the switch to healthier eating behaviors, the entire family begins to make a positive change in their lifestyle as well.  Typically, the need to lose weight is not isolated to one family member and participating in our program is a great way to acknowledge that a “meal time makeover” is needed!

Can I do this program after having a major medical problem?
Dr. Morgan has helped patients who have had organ transplants, heart attacks, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Paraplegia, cancer survivors, and numerous other illnesses. He will carefully examine your medical issues and tailor a plan to best suit your needs. Dr. Morgan will also keep your other physicians abreast of your progress and work with those physicians if necessary.

What do I do in social situations or when I’m on vacation and outside eating opportunities are inevitable?
The staff at Bariatrics will help you plan and prepare for these temptations so you will be knowledgeable about how best to participate in these events without sabotaging your weight loss efforts. Parties, holidays, vacation, work functions, etc. are all bound to happen while you are dieting. That’s just life! But learning how to handle these instances and feel good about the choices you made are part of what you will learn during each phase of the diet.

I have tried numerous weight loss programs, lost weight on them, and then regained it all back when I started eating on my own again. How will this program be any different?
We have all known people who have lost weight either by eliminating calories, fat, carbohydrates, etc. and then quickly put the weight back on. Typically, when you totally cut out one of these major dietary components your body becomes even more sensitive to them when you add them back in to your diet – especially if they are not added back in slowly. Our diet is broken down into the perfect ratio of calories, fat, carbohydrates, and protein so that you lose weight without eliminating any of the essential elements your body needs. This approach to weight loss allows you to maintain muscle and burn fat. Because you have been getting these essential elements all along, slowly increasing the amount of calories during the maintenance phase does not cause you to regain your weight. Also, we provide each patient with a personalized meal plan that will tell you how many calories you can eat each day and maintain your goal weight.  Participating in a maintenance program is by far the number one predictor of long term weight maintenance!

What if I just want to get appetite suppressants and injections?
Diet pills and shots are not the answer to weight loss! You cannot lose and maintain your weight by using pills and shots alone! Under the supervision of a medical doctor, appetite suppressants and Lipotrophic and B-12 injections can help aid in weight loss when they are used in conjunction with a weight loss meal plan. Let us reiterate again, taking a diet pill that suppresses your appetite to the point where you are skipping meals to lose weight will not work in the long run! Over time you develop a tolerance to the pills and will start eating out of hunger and will regain your weight. If you are interested in taking an appetite suppressant or getting an injection as part of our weight loss program, Dr. Morgan will determine if this is in your best interest and will monitor your progress each week. When medically indicated, patients can take appetite suppressants throughout all phases of the program and into maintenance while you are transitioning back to eating grocery store foods.

Do you have a program for children and teenagers?
Yes, people of all ages can do our program! The young adult population does particularly well on this diet because it’s easy to carry with them on very busy days. Dr. Morgan will tweak our PSMF diet depending on the age of the patient since growing children and teens have different dietary needs than adults. Parents, siblings and other important family members have a huge impact on a child or teenagers success, so we encourage the entire family to make healthy changes in support of the patient!
